The Chapel was built in 1858
by early settlers of the Toronto region, the second building
on the site. Farmers and families pooled their few resources
to construct this simple hall, united by spirit and hope.
It was built as part of a circuit of the Primitive Methodist
Church in Upper Canada. Ministers travelled by horseback to
bring services to this and other communities from Bolton to
Burnamthorpe Road.
In 1925 this church joined with other congregations to form
the United Church of Canada. The church served as a community
centre, a place where neighbours could celebrate their joys,
and bring their sorrows. Marriages and children were celebrated,
losses were shared. It was a gathering place, a place to share,
and a sanctuary.
In 2001 the United Church donated the building to a non-profit
organization, the Ebenezer Toronto Gore Historical Foundation,
which has preserved the building for the use of the residents
of this area, and the larger community.
